Raising a glass of festive cheer – our Christmas beers

Hogs Back Brewery’s festive line up: Advent Ale, new Yule Hog and Mistletoe & Swine

We’re offering plenty of Christmas cheer to local beer-lovers, with a new seasonal session ale, Yule Hog, available in pubs from December, and the return of festive favourites Advent Ale and Mistletoe & Swine.

At the same time, the Hogs Back Brewery Shop is gearing up for festive shoppers, offering the brewery’s draught beers including the festive ales and a stunning range of beers from all over the world. The Brewery Shop will be opening for extended hours in the run up to Christmas – to be announced shortly on the website.

At 3.8% ABV, Yule Hog is slightly lower strength than most Christmas beers, but still packs a powerful flavour punch. A red rye beer, Yule Hog has a malty flavour and smooth character, with spicy notes and a hoppy finish, making it the perfect easy-drinking festive ale.

Rupert Thompson, Hogs Back Brewery managing director, said, “Session ales are becoming ever more popular; for example Biker, our 3.4% golden summer beer brewed to celebrate the Farnham Bike Ride, was a great success. We spotted a gap in the market for a lower ABV festive ale, and Yule Hog fills it perfectly – a  session beer with plenty of flavour, but also allowing Santa to enjoy a great pint and still steer his sleigh safely back to the North Pole.”

Our other festive beers include:

  • Advent Ale: a ruby coloured, 4.4% ABV ale with a refreshing fruity nose, a sweet liquorice and roasted malt flavour and rich dark chocolate aftertaste. Available in bottles and in pubs as a cask ale.
  • Mistletoe & Swine: at 5.2% ABV, a full-bodied, deep amber cask ale with subtle hints of sultana, peppery ginger, warm cinnamon and orange zest.  Made with a mulling recipe for a real Christmas taste and feel.
  • A over T: Aromas over Tongham: We have released the 2107 vintage of this 9% ABV bottled barley wine in time for Christmas. With its rich flavours of sultanas, orange peel and plums, it’s best served in a wine glass or brandy barrel to concentrate its wonderful aromas.
