A Classic Best Bitter

4.2% abv - available:

An enticing amber colour with a hoppy and slightly fruity aroma. We use the finest English malt carefully balanced with local Fuggles hops. This is gently fermented to leave some of the natural malt sugars, to give a full and satisfying flavour with a long, dry finish.

The story of TEA

TEA was first brewed here in August 1992, by Martin Hunt, the founder of Hogs Back Brewery. After much head scratching, we eventually hit upon the name of TEA because it spelt out exactly what it is - a traditional English ale. Sometimes the simplest things are best. The recipe for TEA has hardly changed since, however, in 1997 we wanted to enter TEA for a single hop variety competition but we had 2 hops in it. So we dropped the Goldings, which were used for early copper bittering and went with 100% Fuggles. We didn’t win the competition, but, TEA tasted even better! We stuck with it and 3 years later we won Gold in the Best Bitter category at the Great British Beer Festival and were runner up Champion Beer of Britain so the decision wasn’t too bad.
